![]() With the arrival of the 2nd generation of Smarts, here at SSC we decided to see if these models take to a custom conversion as easily as the older models. So we took a G2 Pulse with a factory fitted glass sunroof, tucked it in a corner and began by stripping it down to the bare essentials. We start by preparing the jack black body panels ready for a coat of Gloss black paint, matched to the Tridion passenger cell to give us a subtle yet crisper finish to the overall look of this conversion. With interior also stripped down to carpets and metal work its time to consider some in-car entertaiment by fitting an underseat multi CD stack system along with a Smart sound upgrade achieved by fitted accoustic sound boxes inserted under the dash along with two ways fitted in the boxes and separated tweeters mounted above the dash. ![]() As pioneers and specialists in custom leather, we could hardly just replace the original seats and seeing as the external look was heading down a rather dark yet clean line, why not attract an opposite and introduce something a little different inside, through a BMW knappa yellow and black leather, which also includes the dash and door cards. You may have noticed that on putting the panels in the spay shop, we also decided to paint, the door handels and clock surrounds, the door mirrors and external trim along with the MS design front air intake and original side skirts! ![]() On bringing the car back together and refitting its now matched body panels, handles and mirrors, we added SSC custom chrome grills to both the front end scoop and the rear heat displacement holes. Fitted a Janspeed anodised heat shield over the throaty twin Janspeed exhaust pipe, adding another 6bhp to overall performance of this conversion on its own. Next we sculpted the MS design spoiler to the tailgate for a perfect fit and then attached Brabus side skirts over the now painted original skirts, emphasising the AEZ five spoke alloys sitting on 195 and 175 tyres. |
